Give Me A Drum

     Listen to the song

I played in a band, the grandest in the land,
I didn’t strum, I didn’t blow, but I was the star of every show.
For while the fiddler fiddled, and while the singer sang,
The only sound I ever made was “Bang! Bang! Bang!”

Give me a drum, a drum, rumpety-tumpety-tum.
Give me a drum, a drum, rumpety-tumpety-tum.

I tried a clarinet, I always will regret,
I didn’t know whether to blow or suck, it sounded like a poorly duck.
So in amongst the flutes and a lonely old bassoon,
The only sound I ever made was “Boom! Boom! Boom!”

I tried the violin; it made a dreadful din,
Perhaps it was because I chose to hold the bow between my toes.
So while the cello celloed, and the banjo gave a strum,
The only sound I ever made was “Rum! Tum! Tum!”

And then my sister Liza, she played the synthiser.
She frightened all the dogs and cats and even Grandma’s furry hats.
So Mum gave her a drum; she practised all she could,
And the only sound she ever made was “Thud! Thud! Thud!”
